Basement Decorating

by Kam

I'm trying to decorate my daughter's room and eventually my own.
We live in a basement so the space is very small which is why I've had to move my two dressers from my room and put them into my daughters room...we have a king size bed taking up most of the space.
We are currently looking for a twin size bed for my daughter and I'd like to decorate it but don't know where to begin...any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Kam

Hi Kam,
Basement decorating can be tricky. You currently live in a small space and you have a king size bed that may be too large for the room. Would you consider selling the king for a queen and perhaps you would be able to fit your dressers? To really know how to guide you without seeing the space I would need a floor plan and pictures... but keep in mind with basement decorating to keep thing light and bright since the windows are usually small and the ceilings are low. Use a lot of vertical pieces and patterns to give the illusion of height and table lamps to give a nice glow.

As for your daughters room, how old is she? You can start with her likes and favorite colors. Have her pick out some bedding she likes and then pull a color from it for the walls. Add some pictures and accessories, and window treatments that match.

I hope that helps.
