Decorating A Room ? Don't forget To Decorate The Walls Too!

Inspiration To Decorating A Room The Diy Way - Creating Your Art

This page is dedicated to my fellow DIY decorating junkies who get great satisfaction from decorating their homes using their own uniqueness and personal style.

All of you budget conscious diva's will get great money saving tips here too!

What better way is there of decorating a room than by creating your own artwork for it?

I didn't realize how artistic I really was until I was faced with trying to complete the living room makeover I started in my home a few years back. I had a wall that desperately needed attention. In order to give my new room the wow factor I was hoping for, but with no room left in my budget for buying art, I had to get crafty and make it myself!

This was way before my passion for interior design materialized into my own business so back in those days I flew by the seat of my pants! No plan left me with no room in the budget for art.

I know now that decorating a room is done in stages with a good firm design plan that includes a budget plan for all aspects of the design, so you can complete the room from start to finish.Learn more about making a decorating plan here

So what do you do if you're decorating a room and you're out of dough?

What do you do if you can't find that special piece that wall is begging for?

You make it! You create your own art! That is the solution!

Decorating a room with art can be a distressing task. It can be confusing...

Everyone knows that art compliments a home's decor and that it adds interest and beauty but many people get really hung up on how to choose it and hang it, or they think it's too expensive, so they go without it.

But decorating a room with your own art is sooo easy! Why?

Because you get to create exactly what you need for the space you need it for. It's completely custom!

And you know what? It's so much fun to get in touch with the artist in you, and it's so therapeutic too.

So even if you're pressed on time, I recommend that your decorate your home with at least one piece of art you have made yourself.

On this page I'll show you how easy decorating a room with art-your art can be by showing you some of the art I've created for my home. Learn about how I tapped into the diva in me and how you can too!

Inspire and be inspired is my motto!

I decorated my daughter Nina's room by creating this wall mural for her.

Do you have artistic flair? Ever wonder if you could paint, or better yet, paint a mural for a wall in your home? Decorating A room With A Mural Painting For Nina I never knew I had it in me until one day I fell in love with a painting at this little gallery down the street(actually there were quite a few paintings I fell in love with!). The artist Brendan Loughlin told me he was asking $800 for it. Well, that was totally out of my budget even though it was well worth it.

He said, "You know, I give art lessons for $10 bucks an hour. I can show you how to paint something similar and how easy it is".

I took him up on it. My art is certainly not anywhere near as good as his, but I like creating art for my home and I enjoy looking at my creations, and it's in my budget!

Sometimes when I'm decorating a room for a client I'll just create the art myself if their budget is getting tight or even to just leave them something from me. I don't tell them I created it until they tell me if they like it or not because I don't want to make them feel obligated.(see below)

Once you get started, it seems to come easier. You just can't worry about making mistakes. Just "let it go" like Brendan used to tell me.

My Daughter requested a "beach theme" for her room. She loved the idea of having a hammock chair hanging from her ceiling!

I suggested I paint a window overlooking a beach so when she is swinging (Not really encouraging too much "swinging", not wanting to take the ceiling down and all!)

on the hammock she can look out at it.

I had a piece of wallpaper with a beach scene that I tried to copy. Don't feel guilty about copying someones artwork because it will most likely never turn out exactly the same.

Sometimes it helps to sketch it out first. I use chalk.

You can use a projector too as another method to get exactly what you want if you're afraid of going the free hand route.

It's easy to create art when you are not trying to be so exact or precise. I would not recommend trying to create people or portraits unless you know how. I personally think it's too difficult to draw faces or bodies.

Flowers and still life's are easier.

I desperately needed art to complete the bedroom I decorated for my client Brenda. We were on a tight budget so I painted this picture for her, see it here...Go to Brenda's room- just click on the pic. You can also see more here, too About interior-decorating-diva

Decorating A room For Brenda with vace of flowers These are more paintings I created for my home. I know they are not very good, but I enjoy looking at them and I love all the colors and that they

match my decor perfectly and are custom fit to my walls

I'm telling you, it was rewarding to do them on so many levels! I highly recommend you find some time in your busy schedules to try a hand at creating your own art and diy decorating projects for your home. Let the kids help, or better yet have them do their own for their bedrooms while you create your own masterpieces ;) Panarama for decorating a room with my paintings of flowers and a tropical scene.

Panarama for decorating a room with my paintings of flowers and a tropical scene. Modern art, impressionism, and abstracts are easy to do. Sometimes just some background colors and a few lines are all you need and before ya know it-it's an abstract painting!
