Furniture placement in dining and family room

by Jo
(Toronto)

Hello...we need some help with furniture placement!

I plan to use the great room as the dining room since it is right off the kitchen, and the living/dining room as the family room where the TV will be.

* the plan is to have a round dining table in the great room since it is right off the kitchen (or do you think we are best going with a rectangular dining table). I saw a gorgeous round table with a 74" diameter but that might be too big? We also will add a pantry in the kitchen and at the moment will leave the eat in space as is.
* we also plan have an L shaped sofa in the great room with the TV placed on the wall (garage)> we will find out if the builder can delete that 36 high capped wall separating both rooms. If that is the case how do we separate both areas?
* We also plan to insert a TV niche in the garage wall so the TV is flush with the wall and not sticking out.

We have a lot of family and we do entertain so lots of seating is key though our style is cosy, comfortable yet somewhat modern. link of the floor plan below:

Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Jo,
Thanks for posting to the forum.
Gorgeous home you're building!
Let me see if I can help you out.
Firstly,
I think a round dining room table would work well since the space is square enough. I love a round table too! They don't work well in a rectangular shaped room.I'm not sure about the size, it's hard to see on the floor plan but as long as there is enough space to walk around and you have ease of entry and room for your furniture pieces... it should be fine. Hey thanks Jo for posting such a nice home, actually I have also started building home and was searching some decorating tips for building a house and came here. The house that I am building is almost completed only the interior decoration is left to do. This post was very much informative for me.
I have ordered apatio dining sets for dining and round table for for garden. As for my family leisure my wife told me to decor a house with all patio furniture. But as for my floor I am in confuse what to do?
