A few years ago I attended a designers showcase house in Madison, Ct. A bunch of designers in the area got to decorate a room in a historical B&B in the town.
I saw a beautiful glass tiling application on the walls similar to a mosaic tile in one of the bathrooms, only done with shells, pearls, pieces of tile and glass, and ... as opposed to just the little square glass mosaic tiles.
It was Stunning! I thought it was so creative and different. I filed it into my memory bank in the "must do someday" file in my brain. You know the place?
To me my bathrooms are like EYE Candy! I never grow tired of looking at these beautiful, out of the ordinary glass tile mosaics!

Here's How To Do Glass Tiling the Diva's Way:
I used shells, pearls, pieces of tile, china pieces, sea glass and glass vase fillers from the $ store.
I love these glass vase fillers! They come in all shapes and forms; starfish, half rounds, swirls, conch shells...( You can find them at a craft store in the floral dept, I've also seen them in the $stores and Xmastree shops)
I used the semi-rounds and glued them in a circle on the wall and put one in the center to form a flower.A whole wall of this would make a beautiful glass mosaic. But, I couldn't resist adding the shells and glass rock pieces too!
The ideas are endless, you could do a whole wall with the river rock vase fillers. they are so much cheaper than tile, just a little more time consuming, but so worth the time!
Here are more detailed instructions for how you can do this glass tiling project like I did!
Gather pieces of glass and/or whatever else you would like to incorporate into your mosaic. I used different colored glass pieces that are really meant for flower vases. There are lots of choices. I love the beach glass for a cottage look. *Note: You could use this glass tiling method for just about anything, not just your walls. Also, if you are leery about attaching the pieces directly to your walls, you can always mount them to a board and then attach the board to your walls. Use thin set to glue the pieces to the wall. Then grout over it all with the color of choice. In my powder room I used gray grout, in my master bath I used white.
Grouting is messy, sorry. Can't trowel it on., just have to get some in your hands and push it in, so get ready for the mess.
After it sets for a little bit wipe off the pieces with a damp sponge.
Wait 24 hours until it sets and sponge the haze off, rinsing as needed.
