HARDWOOD FLOORS OR CARPETING?

by Emily
(Branford,CT,USA)

WHICH IS MORE PRACTICAL, HARDWOOD FLOORS OR CARPETING?

The diva's reply: I would say this is a personal preference Emily, however there are pro's and con's to both.

Carpeting Pro's:
always soft underfoot
adds warmth
absorbs sound
affordable

Carpeting Con's
Needs vacuuming regularly
retains dust
retains odors
stains
not pet friendly
contains allergens

Hardwood Pro's
Looks warm
timeless look
Easy to clean
moderate durability depending on choice
many varieties, can substitute with a laminate
adds value
can be installed by homeowner

Hardwood Con's
Can show dust
hard underfoot
may need to be refinished in time (exception would be engineered hardwood since the finish is baked on)
can be pricey

A lot of people opt for carpeting in the bedrooms and hardwood in the main living areas. I suggest adding area rugs for warmth and comfort. They can easily be cleaned or changed.
Hope that helps, thanks for contributing, come back soon!
